NEWCASTLE -- The Saban family would like to share the loss of their beloved Ericka "Scooby."She was born Jan. 27, 1988, to Sarah (Daigneau-Smith) Thompson of Lewiston/Somerville and Frederick L. Saban II of Sabattus. Ericka, age 22, passed away July 15, 2010, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.Ericka attended Baxter School for the Deaf and Lewiston High School, graduating with the class of 2008.Ericka was loved by so very many people, practically everyone she ever met, from the families of Dad and Mom alike. She enjoyed horseback riding, swimming, her Matchbox cars and adaptive skiing at Lost Valley, tethered to her Dad. Ericka loved motorcycle rides and band practice with her Dad, though deaf, she thrilled to the vibration of the bass and drums. Ericka loved the outdoors, whether kicking a ball around, or just walking with Barrett, Chloe or Luke, just a few of her pets.Though her life was cut short, she adapted and overcame to live each day she had teaching others what unconditional love really meant. She touched many lives on many levels and all that knew her were blessed.She had a giggle that was intoxicating and, with few exceptions, was always smiling. Ericka's medical challenges were many and with every turn inspired a prayer circle that deepened and grew.Paternal survivors include her dad, Fred Saban II of Sabattus; her stepmom, Terry (Saban) Theriault of Sumner; stepbrother Jonathan; stepsisters Megan and Brittany; uncle Noel Brown and his wife, Alison, of Jay; aunt Kathi Fortin of New Hampshire; uncle Jim Saban and his wife, Amy, of North Whitefield; aunt Sheri-Lynn Sullivan and her husband, Kevin, of New Hampshire; uncle Mike Saban of Waterville; great-aunt Lorraine and uncle Jim Erskine of Dixmont; great-aunt Nancy Saban of Palermo and many, many more.She was predeceased by Grampy Fred Saban and Grammie Anne Saban. Ericka was their first Grandchild. For them, Ericka was the Light of Life itself.A gathering in celebration of Ericka's life will be hosted at her Dad's home at 527 Sutherland Pond Road, Sabattus, from Friday, Aug. 20, through Aug. 22.
