HOLYOKE -- Sister Emma Boivin, 99, beloved member of the Sisters of St. Joseph in her 78th year, formerly known as Sister Gabrielle, died in the Mont Marie Health Care Center on Monday, June 6, 2005. A native of Taunton, she was the daughter of the late Euclid and Mathilda (Madore) Boivin. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Fall River from St. Jacques Parish, Taunton, and became a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Springfield when the two congregations merged in 1974. She received her early education at St. Mary's Taunton and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1926 and Sacred Heart College in Fall River. Her assignments were at the following schools: Blessed Sacrament, St. Matthew, St. Jean Baptiste and St. Roch, Fall River, and St. Joseph and St. Theresa of New Bedford. She served as Sacristan at the Fall River Provincial House for 10 years. She joined the Fall River Retirement Community in 1987 and the Mont Marie Retirement Community in 1992. In 1998, she became a resident of the Mont Marie Health Care Center. In addition to her Sisters in Community, survivors include a brother, the Rev. Louis R. Boivin of Fall River; three sisters, Maria Donnelly and Rita Bedard, both of Taunton, and Sister Pauline Louise Boivin, SUSC, Fall River; and many nieces and nephews. She was a sister of the late Alma Pelletier, Sister Anna Imelda, SUSC, Sister Lucille Therese, SUSC, Ida Boivin, Joseph Boivin and Euclid Boivin. A prayer service will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at Mont Marie, 34 Lower Westfield Road, and a Liturgy of Christian Burial will be at 5 in Mont Marie Chapel. Burial will follow in Mont Marie Cemetery. Arrangements are by Sampson Family Chapels, 21 Tinkham Road, Springfield.
