Elsie-Margaret Harris, born in 1908, spouse of Leo W. Connors, daughter of Richard Vinecove and Hannah, mother of Ruth, Vincent, David, Anne and Mary, died on February 27, 2004 at 96 years old.
Elsie Margaret Connors Elsie Margaret Connors of Moncton, passed away Friday February 27, 2004 in her 96th year. She died peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born June 4, 1908 in Halifax, NS, she was the daughter of the late Richard Vinecove Harris and Hannah Calloway. She attended St. Augustine's Parish and was a life long member of St. Augustine's CWL. Elsie was a survivor of the Halifax Explosion and was only nine years of age at the time, she loved to relate the story of that day to her family and friends. In 1925, at the age of seventeen she was one of the first female employees hired by Western Union Telegraphs in Halifax. In 1936 she married Leo W. Connors, and together they raised four children. Elsie will be sadly missed by her four children, Ruth Foran (late Rod) of Moncton, Vincent (Elizabeth Henry) of Moncton, David (Nora) of Ottawa and Anne Lorriman (Stuart) of Halifax; 14 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband Leo W. Connors in 1980; a daughter, Mary Virginia in 1946; and a sister, Hilda Harris in 1999. Elsie was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Visiting hours will be held from Cadman's Funeral Home, 114 Alma Street, Moncton, on Monday from 7 to 9PM, parish prayers will be held from the funeral home Monday at 8:00 PM. The funeral mass will be held from the St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday March 2, 2004 at 10:00 AM, with Father Allison Carroll officiating.
