Obituary of Ellen White


Mrs. Ellen Jones white, widow of the late Joseph Moore "Jokie" White, died Tuesday afternoon at Colleton Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was 95.Mrs. White was born Jan. 1, 1913, in the Jonesville section of Colleton County, the youngest daughter of the late Melchor James Jones and Jennie Louise Spencer Jones. Mrs. White dearly loved the Jonesville Community, where her family first settled in the late 1700s, and spent her entire life living there. She was a student at Jonesville Elementary School through the 7th grade and then attended Berkley High School, where she was an active member of the girl's basketball team. Mrs. White was a member of Green's Chapel United Methodist Church until the sanctuary was lost by fire in the late 1920s. She was a homemaker, a sitter for the elderly and loved fishing, gardening, dancing and playing card games.Surviving are a son, Marvin M. White and his wife, Rosemary "Bunny" White, of Hendersonville; two daughters, Jo Ellen W. Bishop and her husband, J.W., of Ruffin, and Jennie W. Shaver and her husband, Joey, of Greenville. There are eight grandchildren, Toby White and his wife, Tracy, of Aiken, Jody Bishop and his wife, Debra, of St. Mary's, Ga., Mike Bishop of Ruffin, Glenn Bishop and his wife, Roxie, of Ruffin, Spencer, Jennifer and Beverly Shaver of Greenville and Jim White and his wife, Eileen, of Charlotesville, Va.; as well as the wife of her late grandson, Renee White of Hendersonville. There are 14 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, James I. White; a grandson, Stuart I. White; and her 12 brothers and sisters.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home with burial following in the Jonesville Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Jonesville Cemetery Fund, c/o Marvin White, 148 Newville Road, Walterboro, SC 29488.Online condolences may be left for the family at www.parkerrhodenfuneralhome.com.Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul St., Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
