<!-- FH = Lawrence-Sorensen 731-424-2424 -->Ellen Ruth Lewis HarrisFuneral services for Ellen Ruth Lewis Harris, age 86, will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at the Diamond Grove Church of Christ, with Al Price officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Bluff Cemetery. Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Harris died Sunday, June 17, 2012 at The Jackson Madison County General Hospital. She was born in Crockett County, TN to Marie Simmons Lewis and John E. Lewis on August 17, 1925. She married Cecil Glenn Harris on March 7, 1947 and to this union, one daughter, Marie, was born. In 1949, the Harris' bought a farm in the Diamond Grove Community of Madison County, where Mrs. Harris lived until her death. She worked as a waitress, as a seamstress at the Garment Factory, and also at the Milan Arsenal. After becoming a hairdresser, she opened Ruth's Beauty Shop in 1957, where she worked until her retirement in 1996. For over six decades, she steadfastly served the Diamond Grove Church of Christ.She is survived by her daughter, Marie Harris Williams of Beech Bluff, TN; three sisters, Evelyn McCord of Humboldt, TN, Winnie Moore and husband Tom of Paris, TN, and Lavinia Overcast of Cottage Grove, TN; her former son-in-law, Dwayne Williams of Mifflin, TN; and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves devoted caregivers, Dorothy Bond, Patsy Comer, Dena Crook, Doris Walker and Pheneice Williams. Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glenn; her brother, John Freed Lewis; a brother-in-law, Dan Overcast; her niece, Sue McCord Schroeder and her nephew, Harold McCord.Pallbearers to serve are Jim Forbis, Gary Harris, Paul Hatcher, Kenneth Newman, Larry Singleton and Jack Williams. Honorary Pallbearer is Dickie Hudson.Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour at the Diamond Grove Church of Christ.
