Ellen Forrester Miller, 87, of Birmingham, Ala., formerly of Sheffield, Ala., died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon today at First Presbyterian Church of Sheffield, with her funeral service immediately following. The Rev. Van Edington and the Rev. Charles Van Devender will officiate. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Sheffield.Mrs. Miller was a native of Leesburg, Ga., and served in the Navy during World War II. She was an English teacher at Sheffield High School and was the first woman deacon of First Presbyterian Church, where she was a member and served as an elder. She taught the Women's Bible Class for 41 years.Survivors include her son, Thomas T. "Toby" Miller Jr. and wife, Martha, of Metairie, La.; daughter, Nancy Miller Cope and husband, Charles, of Vestavia Hills; sister, Jane F. Wooten, of Shellman, Ga. Pallbearers are Braxton Ashe, Rusty Trapp, Terry Miller, Robert Beck, Lamar Miller and Jim Wooten. Honorary pallbearer is Dr. Howard Johnson.Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Sheffield or a favorite charity.Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, is directing.
