Ellen Goodwin, born in 1922, spouse of Jacquie Goodwin, daughter of Anton and Maria, died on February 19, 2006 at 30 years old. Please consult the obituary here:
GOODWIN, Ellen Slipped quietly away into God's embraces at 6:30 PM on Sunday, February 19th, 2006. Our mother, Ellen, was born at Boyle, Alberta on April 6th, 1922 to parents Anton and Maria {Swanson} Stromberg; and, is survived by two older brothers Alf & Fred Stromberg with their wives Beatty and Marie; her younger sister Annie Stromberg; her sister-in-law Lorna Stromberg; and, her brother-in-law Clifford Goodwin. She was an aunt to many great nieces and nephews on both sides of the family tree many of whom will recall how she used to quietly slip cold goat's milk onto the kitchen table without comment on hot summer days. In addition to being the fundamental mom; Ellen had enjoyed a career that ranged from co-managing a general store and slinging fish at a cannery to the hospitality industry in Surrey; and, she then had retired to the quiet farming community of Cloverdale, in Surrey, BC; living in the same apartment complex owned by Mister and Mrs Lim for more than 30 years; where she met with friends and family in a general social environment. Coming from good old, Swedish stock, Ellen Goodwin was as familiar with sewing needles and kitchen ladles, as she was with a hammer and saw. And, she certainly enjoyed conversation and songs; being able keep a good set of lyrics going from Surrey to Edmonton without fail. On Sunday, she passed with grace and a commitment to challenge life up to the very last breath; and, she faced the rigors of the multitudes of cancer with courage and truthfulness; knowing that peace and comfort was not far ahead. It is with love that her sons, Ralph & Glen will always be grateful for the patience and comfort that she brought to our lives through our struggles with illnesses and faults as we ventured through childhood and adolescence. And, as brothers, we are so grateful to Ralph's wife Jacquie, who comforted our mom through the very difficult evolution from home and into the care Lodges in Langley and Whalley; where she was so well nurtured as illness quickly overcame her. And we are also so truly thankful for the encouragement and support that came to mom from so many good and true friends and other family members in these closing days and hours. God Bless all family and friends, who now are sharing with us in our celebration of Ellen's life, as we will gather with Pastor John Grande at the Zion Lutheran Church, 5950 -179 St. in Cloverdale, Surrey, BC on March 4th, at 1 PM for the Memorial Services. Flowers will be provided by immediate family; and, friends are invited to consider making a donation to the Cancer Funds in their region. 210772
