Ella Maxwell Richardson Davis, 88, born Sept. 24, 1917, died peacefully Nov. 13, 2005, at her home, Stonebrae, in Tuscaloosa, Ala. She was the widow of Charles D. Davis Jr. There will be a private family burial at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park. A memorial service will be in Christ Episcopal Church at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, 2005, with the Rev. David Meginniss officiating. Family will receive friends in Randall Hall at the church after the service.Daughters, Ann Davis Thomas and husband, Oren Richmond Thomas III, Carolella Davis Trappe and husband, Owen Stanley Trappe Jr.; son, Charleigh Robert Davis; sisters, June Nuessle, Roberta DuTeil, Fredericka Tyree; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren survive her.Mrs. Davis was a fourth-generation native of Tuscaloosa, a lifelong member of Christ Episcopal Church and a graduate of the University of Alabama. She actively supported the University of Alabama, the Tuscaloosa Public Library, many local music and art charities and the Tuscaloosa Preservation Society. During World War II, she served as a LTjg, SC, USNR. Mrs. Davis was the founder of The Women's Institute and Fun Fund Investment Club for Women. She was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America, DAR, the St. Andrew's Society, Blue Stocking Club, Carousel Club and the Robert Cook Guild.Pallbearers will be grandsons, Lt. David Earp, USN, SEAL (at sea), Nathan Trappe, Todd Trappe, Thomas Kilgallen and Lt. Daniel Feliz, USNR.Honorary pallbearers will be John Crawford Bibb, Dan Burroughs, Richard Gibson, Hubert Guthrie, Dr. Willis Meriwether, Dr. Lester Norvell, Dr. Ross Vaughn and Brian Winters.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tuscaloosa Public Library, 1801 Jack Warner Parkway, 35401 or Christ Episcopal Church, 605 Lurleen B. Wallace Blvd. N, 35401.
