Ella Mae Cleland Smith - STATESBORO - Ella Mae Cleland Smith, 73 passed away peacefully on Monday, December 15, 2008 at Ogeechee Area Hospice, Statesboro, Georgia. Beloved daughter of the late Bertie Mae Wheeler and Clarence Eugene Cleland. Ella was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, the late Dell G. Smith, Jr. and brother William Cleland. Ella was born and raised in Guyton, Georgia and has lived most of her adult life in Savannah. She worked for over nineteen years as a sales clerk at Culver Rug Company and was of the Episcopal Faith. She is survived by her children Dell G. Smith III (Cindy) of Midway and Terri K. Smith Benson (Rev. C. Mike) of Sylvania a brother Charlie E. Cleland of Guyton, 2 sisters Grace McAleer (Jim) and Sarah Elizabeth Cleland, both of Savannah; two grandsons C. Daniel and Stephen C. Benson. Memorial contributions may be made to any area Hospice. Visitation: 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at Fairhaven Funeral Home. Funeral Services: 11:00a.m. Thursday December 18, 2008 in the chapel of the Fairhaven Funeral Home with Dr. Derek McAleer officiating. Interment will be private.
