Rev. Emory Hopkins will officiate services with interment to follow. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Thomasville Center for the Arts following services.Ella Lucille "Cille" Morris was born in Beachton, Georgia on March 13, 1923. She was the third daughter of six siblings born to Daniel and Maggie Glenn. She made her transition into eternity October 5, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents Daniel and Maggie Glenn; sisters Nellie Glenn, Mildred Glenn Keaton, Dorothy Glenn, Mary Glenn Sanford and Viola Glenn Brazzel; and loving husband William "Bill" Alexander Morris, Sr. From the age of four Ella Lucille Morris was a veracious reader with a quest for knowledge.Lucille started her early education in Beachton under the tutelage of Professor Copeland and the teachers at Liberty School. She left Beachton to attend boarding school in Fort Valley, Georgia. After high school she attended Fort Valley State College where she played basketball, became of member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and graduated Summa Cum Laude.Through the encouragement of her professors, Lucille began her teaching career before she graduated. After finishing college, Lucille moved to Thomasville, Georgia and started her post-college teaching career as an English teacher at Douglass High School where she became the librarian. In the early 1970's, Lucille left Douglass High School during desegregation and became head librarian at Thomasville High School.There she remained until she retired from the Thomasville City School System. It was in Thomasville that Lucille met the love of her life business executive and fellow education William "Bill" Alexander Morris, Sr. In 1952, Bill and Lucille married and through their union they had one child, Daniel Glenn Morris.Bill and Lucille were nurturing parents that worked vehemently to educate, inform and expose Daniel to the world and all its possibilities. Together they created a home that reflected their love of family, friends, education, gardening, and nature, the arts, civil and human rights and pride in community.The Morris household was filled with interesting pieces of art and artifacts, photos and a vast collection of books so meticulously organized that the "Morris Library" became a treasured neighborhood resource. A firm believer in lifelong learning, Lucille furthered her education earning a Masters of Education degree in High School Administration from Atlanta University in 1959, Masters of Library Science and Six Year Certificate from Florida State University in 1970.She was inducted as a member of Beta Phi Mu Honor Society that same year. Bill and Lucille were among the first African-Americans to own a business in their community. They opened a laundry mat on Lester Street to provide a convenient neighborhood location for residents to have access to washers and dryers.Lucille, Bill and a group of concerned citizens saw a need in the early 1960's to create a facility that would provide quality healthcare for the underserved African-American citizens of Thomasville and Thomas County. They opened Glenn-Mor Home, Inc. in 1971 to meet the needs of all citizens in need of elder and nursing home care.The founding of Glenn-Mor Home, Inc. served as a catalyst for change in relation to the admission and treatment of underserved minority elder patients in similar regional facilities. Not only was Lucille an educator, businesswoman, and community leader she was among the first African-American women to have a television show on WCTV Channel 6. The talk show Input provided a forum for the discussion of a variety of topics prudent to the Thomasville and Tallahassee communities.As a television personality, Lucille had the opportunity to present to a larger audience relevant issues and information as well as shed insight and understanding from an African-American perspective. She was a highly regarded role model, speaker and presenter. A committed and active citizen, Lucille was a member of several organizations and boards including: The board and as president of Glenn-Mor Nursing Home, Inc.; Board member of the Thomasville City School Board; Board member at Thomas University (Thomas College); Board member of Thomasville Center for the Arts (Thomasville Cultural Center), Board member of Thomasville Heritage Foundation; Founding board member of Thomasville Community Resource Center.She was a member of the Mr. and Mrs. Club of Thomasville, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Evergreen Congregational United Church of Christ in Beachton, Georgia. Living on to celebrate her life and legacy are her children Daniel Glenn Morris, his wife Terri Vismale-Morris and two grandchildren Danielle Marie Vismale Morris and Troy Alexander Morris; two step-children, William A. Morris, Jr. (Zerlene) and Sylvia Morris (John); two grandchildren Keith Miles and Dawn Smith; two nephews Winston Keaton (Mildred) and Joseph Brazzel; one niece Anita B. Smith.She also leaves several great grandchildren as well as great nieces and nephews.
