BENNINGTON -- A memorial Mass of Christian death and burial was offered for Ella Graves on Tuesday morning at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church with the Rev. James Preskenis, c.s.c., pastor, officiating.The scriptures were read by her son Peter Graves and family friend Robin Outwater. Mr. James Kempf read the prayers of intercession.Musical selections for the Mass included “Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee,” “How Great Thou Art” and “The Prayer of St. Francis,” which were sung by Ms. Monica Murray, and “Ave Maria” and “The Lord’s Prayer,” which were sung by family friend Mardi Sargent. Both soloists were accompanied by Mr. Donald McMahon.Acolytes for the Mass included Mr. James Kempf, Mr. Francis Sausville and Mr. Charles Gould.Mr. Peter Graves offered the eulogy.Burial will take place in the family lot in the Bennington Center Cemetery in Old Bennington in the spring.Mrs. Ella Graves, 94, a well known resident of the area and wife of Van Vechten Graves, died on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, at her residence on Village Lane in Bennington.Arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington.
