Elizabeth-Winnifred Phillips, born in 1919, spouse of Edwin-Charles Phillips, mother of Sue, Jane, Earl, Glen, Carol and Diane, died on September 4, 2002.
IN LOVING MEMORY PHILLIPS _ Elizabeth Winnifred Phillips 1919-2002. The Phillips Family mourns the passing of their beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many, Elizabeth Phillips. She was taken peacefully into her Lord's loving arms on Wednesday morning September 4, 2002, following a severe stroke suffered on August 10, 2002. Betty Phillips, born Elizabeth Winnifred Johnston on July 3, 1919, was a native of Fort Erie, Ontario, and graduate of Macdonald Institute (University of Guelph). She married Edwin Charles Phillips on June 27, 1942 and, after a brief professional career, dedicated her energy and love to her husband and the raising of their six children, Diane, Carol, Glen, Earl, Jane and Sue. Joining them in grief, for their beloved mother-in-law and grandmother are: Jerry (Diane) and Tobin Judd of Scottsburg, Indiana; Marvin (Carol), Angela and Mark McClelland of Port Moody; Arlie (Glen), Evan and Jamie Phillips of Vancouver; Barbara (Earl), Sarah, Carolin, Ted and David Phillips of Vancouver; Cliff (Jane), Michelle and Michael McGrath of Peterborough, Ontario and Terri, Rachael and Brian McGrath of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Betty was pre-deceased by her brothers, Ted and George Johnston. Thankfully, all families and generations were represented at Betty's bedside at Vancouver General Hospital as she passed on, with the notable exception of grandson Tobin Judd who is on call with the National Guard in Indiana. Our heartfelt thanks go to the staff of the Palliative Care unit of VGH who made her last days welcoming for the family and as comfortable as possible for Betty. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday September 7, 2002,4:00 pm at West Point Grey Baptist Church (4509 West 11th Avenue), to be followed by a reception in the church basement. To all her many friends and loved ones the invitation to remember her through your attendance at this service is extended, as well as the opportunity to give in her memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation (P.O. Box 3632, Stn Terminal, Vancouver, BC, V6B 3Y8; 1-888-473-4636) or West Point Grey Baptist Church (4509 West 11th Avenue, Vancouver, BC, V6R 2M5; 604-228-9747) in lieu of flowers. Betty Phillips, we honour with much love your many years of devoted and happy service to Family, Friends and Church, and thank God for your beautiful life here on Earth. We are all the richer for it.
