Obituary of Elizabeth Webster

ROSS (Webster), Elizabeth Fox "Betty" ROSS (Webster), Elizabeth Fox "Betty" - 85, passed away on February 6, 2008, in Dartmouth General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Born August 6, 1922, in Stewartfield, Broxburn, Scotland, she was the sixth of eight children of Elizabeth (McLeary) and William Webster. She went into the Time Office of the Lothian Coal Company where she was sent to Nelson's College, Edinburgh, for secretarial training, becoming secretary to George McKay, Manager of Lothian Coal Company. During the war, she was involved in the Auxiliary Fire Service and met her future husband, Edwin Ross, serving with the Canadian Army in the war, becoming one of the many war brides moving to Canada with her first child. She arrived at Pier 21, Halifax, on the T.S.S. Letitia, September 11, 1946, with much hope and anticipation of her new life in Florence, Cape Breton, with her new husband and family. She moved to Dartmouth several years ago. She was predeceased by her son, Gary; husband, Edwin, as well as her parents; brothers, John, Alex, Willie, and sister, Nellie. She is survived by her sister, Mary; brother, Rob, as well as her children, Benjamin, Heather (Nick) Bihel, William (Jayne) Ross, Brenda (John) Keating, John (Cathy), Linda (Ray) McCormick, Valerie (Ken) Ross-Dressler, and Dorothy (Greg) Gamble. Nanny was much loved by her many (over 70) grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was an avid reader, a lifetime student, and loved music. She will be greatly missed by all the lives that she touched during her time in this world. She loved life and all of her friends and family whose lives she enriched. We all believe that she was one of God's angels sent to us, and being in her presence was a blessing and an honour. She filled everyone's cup when it was empty. We will never forget "our Bonnie Lassie". A special thanks to all the staff at Dartmouth General Hospital, 3 East, who contributed to her care. Visitation will be held today from 7-9 p.m. and Saturday, February 9, from 12-2 p.m., with funeral service at 2 p.m., all in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. Reception to follow. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to The Arthritis Society. On-line condolences may be made at: www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com
