Elizabeth U. Burke, age 89, of Port Matilda, passed away Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at her residence. Born Dec. 1, 1919, in Tower City, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Patrick and Sarah (Murray) Savage and was one of 11 children (Catherine, Anna, Mary, William, Verna, Agnes, Margaret, Joseph, Patrick and Sarah). On March 25, 1940, she married Robert W. Burke, who preceded her in death on April 28, 1984. She was a graduate of Tower City High School and a returning adult student in Penn State's Go-60 program until her diminished vision prevented her attendance. She loved her family, gardening, her green house, hiking in the woods and crafts, which always kept her busy. Elizabeth is survived by two sons, Robert W. Jr. and his wife Kuyala M. of Mary Esther, Fla., and Michael and his wife Ruth Knowles of Port Matilda; two daughters, Sister Mary Roberta Burke, I.H.M. of Warrington, Pa., and JoAnne Zollo and her husband Nicholas of Willow Grove, Pa.; grandchildren, Theresa, Christine, Debbie, Stephanie, Nichole and Robert; and great-grandchildren, Brooke, Haley, Danielle, Madison, John, Isabella and Marissa.
