Elizabeth D. Age 90, of Binghamton, formerly of Watkins Glen, NY, died Wednesday, October 24, 2001 at Good Shepherd-Fairview Home. Her husband, Donald M. Smith; owner of H.M. Smith and Son, predeceased her in 1964. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Susan and Dr. Edward Miller of Binghamton, Joan M. Sala, Tamuning, Guam and Watkins Glen; two grandchildren, Kimberly M. Morse, Bronxville, And Deborah A. Miller, Portland, OR; three great grandchildren, Addison, Ashley Elizabeth and Tyler Morse. She was born in Buffalo, NY on May 1911 and graduated with honors from Rochester Institute of Technology. Upon her marriage, she moved to Watkins Glen in 1939. She worked for the Olin Library at Cornell University for many years. She loved her adopted community and supported it with great enthusiasm. She participated in Eastern Star, Home Bureau, 4-H, Evening Belles and was an active member of St. James Episcopal Church, Watkins Glen, having served on the Vestry and as president of the Women of St. James. She also volunteer many hours at the Chamber of Commerce and served as president of the Schuyler County Hospital Auxiliary. As president of the Friends of Watkins Library, she helped initiate the Light-Up-The-Lake fundraiser, an activity that has since become a July Fourth tradition for Seneca Lake. In 1991, she moved to Good Shepherd-Fairview Home in Binghamton, where she was an active participant and president of the Resident Council. She had many good friends and enjoyed her life there. Her family wold like to thanks all of the staff for their love, concern and many kindnesses, especially Marylyn and Mona. Memorial services will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, Watkins Glen, Saturday, November 10, 2001 at 10 AM. The family will receive friends in the parish house from 9:30 AM until service time. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to the Living Care Fund, c/o Good Shepherd-Fairview Home, 80 Fairview Ave., Binghamton, NY 13904 or the Memorial Fund at St. James Episcopal Church, Decatur St., Watkins Glen, NY 14841. Burial will be in Pleasent View Cemetery, Reading Center, NY. Arrangements are by the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, New York.
