Elizabeth Stokes Cox, 98, widow of the late Andrew G. Cox, who at one time owned and managed Cox Music House in Asheville, N.C., and Hartsville, died Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at her residence. Born in Simpsonville, she was a daughter of the late Jason and Corrie Hawkins Stokes. Mrs. Cox attended Furman Women's College and taught piano and organ for 60 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Simpsonville, and served as organist at Merimon Avenue Methodist Church in Asheville, N.C., and West Hartsville Baptist Church in Hartsville, of which she was a charter member. Surviving are two daughters, Virginia Cox Owens of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jean Cox Rhoden of Simpsonville; one sister, Azilee Wilson, of Rock Hill; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Cox was predeceased by a daughter, Dorothy Ashmore; a sister, Elsie Bangle; and five brothers, Furman Stokes, Wilburn Stokes, Roy Stokes, Grady Stokes and Ira Stokes. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, April 11, 2002, at First Baptist Church in Simpsonville, with Dr. Randy Harling officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorials made to Interim Hospice of Spartanburg, 775 Spartan Blvd., Spartanburg, SC 29301. - Cannon Funerals and Cremations, Simpsonville.
