Elizabeth Roy Walker PORTLAND -- Elizabeth Roy Walker passed away on March 28, 2006. She was born on May 18, 1926 in Brooklyn, N.Y., the only child of Adjatore and Elizabeth Oliver Roy. Betty was cute as a button and crowned Miss Brooklyn in 1929. Educated in Brooklyn, she married William Long Walker in October 1947. They lived in Harrisburg, Pa., and Amityville, N.Y., before settled in Yorktown Heights, N.Y. to raise their family. They also spent their summers in Brewster, Mass., before moving there permanently. They most recently lived in Fort Piece, Fla. At the time of her death she lived in Portland, which she thought was ridiculously cold but was very happy to once again be living so close to her family. Betty was proud of her Scottish heritage and spent many months throughout her life traveling in Scotland and studying highland dance. She particularly loved attending the Highland Games, where she always dressed in her tartan. Betty worked for many years at the County Trust Company in Yorktown Heights, N.Y., and retired after working for the town of Brewster for many years. Betty had a very keen sense of style and fashion. She had a love for clothes, and of course, shoes, which she passed on to her daughter and granddaughter. She was active in her community and church, most recently serving as a deacon at the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Pierce and as the assistant treasurer of the residents' association at the Birchwoods where she lived in Portland. She was predeceased by her husband Bill, whom she was married to for 58 years. She is survived by her son, William Brewster Walker of Orleans, Mass.; and her daughter and son-in-law Elizabeth and William Shorr of Portland. She is also survived by four grandchildren, whom she dearly loved, Kate, Chris, Ben and Sam Shorr. The family would like to thank the staff of the Birchwoods, Cedars, and Maine Medical Center for the kind and compassionate care they provided. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at the Falmouth Congregational Church, 267 Falmouth Rd., Falmouth. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to the Cedars or to Maine Medical Center. Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home & Cremation Service 775-3763
