CARPENTER Elizabeth (Betsy) Reeves Carpenter, age 77, of Belle Meade, N.C., passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2003, at St. Joseph of the Pines Health Center after a lengthy illness. A memorial service will be conducted on Sunday, August 3, 2003, at 3 p.m. at the Belle Meade Chapel with the Rev. Todd Kitchen officiating. She was born in Scarsdale, N.Y., to the late Charles and Elizabeth Rossiter Reeves. Mrs. Carpenter and her husband of 53 years, David, lived most of their married lives in Fairfield. They also lived in Woodstock, Vt., Maysville, Ky., and Ponte Vedra, Fla. She was a retired nursery school teacher at the Greenfield Hill Congregational Nursery School for many years. She is survived by her husband, David; her children, David Carpenter of Canyon Country, Calif., Elizabeth Keyworth of Norwalk, and Karen Desmond of Marblehead, Mass.; four grandchildren; and her brother, Charles Howard Reeves of Louisville, Ky. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Belle Meade Education Fund, 100 Waters Drive, Southern Pines, NC 28387. This fund provides grants to the Belle Meade staff for advanced education. The Boles Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. of Southern Pines is serving the family.
