Elizabeth (Betsy) Phillips of Binghamton Elizabeth (Betsy) Phillips, 85, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2008, at Binghamton General Hospital. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 57 years, Philip (Flip) Phillips; her daughter, Debbie Phillips; a brother, Hockey Hotchkiss. She is survived by a daughter, Penny Johnston, Boulder, Colo.; a son, Flip Phillips (Lynda Reino), Binghamton; a daughter, Pamela Phillips (Tony Crone), Boulder, Colo.; six grandchildren, Kimberly Klassen, Jeffrey Johnston, Jamie Phillips, Brandon Phillips, Jamie Phillips-Crone, Alexa Phillips-Crone; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Haberl, Golden, Colo., and Barbara Terry (Jim); sister-in-law, Alice Mae Bowen, Boulder; sister-in-law, Marilyn Shumann, Madison, Conn.; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Betsy attended The Baldwin School and Cornell University where she and her sister performed in both a women's quartet and a mixed quartet. She was an avid tennis player, who played with Billie Jean King in Binghamton. Her passion was raising and showing her sheltie dogs. Her special moments were the times she spent with her family. She introduced them to her favorite place in the Thousand Islands on the St. Lawrence River where her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren loved to come visit and spend the summers with her. She will be remembered for her bright smile, her "Betsy-isms", her bright red convertible, her zest for life, and especially her sweetness. She was a member of the Theta Sorority, the Junior League, and Trinity Memorial Church. At Elizabeth's request, there will be no calling hours and funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
