Obituary of Elizabeth-May Gallagher

Mckinney, Elizabeth May It is with deep sadness that the family of Elizabeth May McKinney (nee Gallagher) announce the going home to be with her Lord on Sunday September 15, 2002 at her home in Port Hope, Ontario. Elizabeth was the wife of the late Reverend Thomas John McKinney, mother of Mervyn of Vancouver, Adeline Misener (Jerry) of Frederickton, and Norman (MaryJo) of Barrie, loving grandmother to Carman (Judy), Veronica (Paul), and Rebecca of Fredericton and Colleen and Caroline of Barrie and great-grandmother to Jessica, Thomas, Tristan, Claire, and Mariah all of New Brunswick. She will be sadly missed by all because of the affectionate place she had in our hearts. Elizabeth was born in Kerrykeel, County Donnegal, Eire on May 1, 1917, daughter of Samuel and Francis Gallagher. A brother John and sisters Sadie and Ruby all of Kerrykeel predecease her. She married Thomas John in 1941 and served as the "mistress of the manse" and model Presbyterian ministers wife in the Saltersland Presbyterian Church, Northern Ireland; Knox Presbyterian Church, Teeswater, Ontario and St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in Port Hope, Ontario. In December of 1954 with her family she immigrated to Canada and soon settled in and enjoyed life in rural Ontario. As pianist, baker, hostess, and raconteur she was actively involved in her church and neighbourhood, she will be fondly remembered for her hospitality, her deeds of service to her Lord, the church and neighbours, and her cheerful and engaging personality to all she came in contact with. Friends are invited to attend visitation at the Ross Funeral Chapel, Port Hope, on Wednesday September 18th, from 2-4 & 7-9p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Port Hope on Thursday September 19th at 11:00a.m. Interment will follow at Port Hope Union Cemetery. A bright shining light has twinkled one last time and takes her place in eternity to await the culmination of all things. 9/18/2002- ID848890 - Barrie Examiner
