Elizabeth "Bettie" Baker (Carpenter) Johnson, 88, of South Yarmouth, and formerly of East Sandwich and Holliston, died at her home Monday, Jan. 30, 2012. For 63 years, she was the loving wife of Albert F. Johnson, who died in 2008. Born in Cranston, R.I., Mrs. Johnson was the daughter of the late Earl and Florence (Baker) Carpenter. She graduated from Cranston High School in 1941 and recently attended her 70th class reunion. She was also a graduate of the Edgewood Secretarial School. Mrs. Johnson is survived by a son, Robert F. Johnson of Cambridge; two daughters, Karen Johnson of Barnstable, and Judith Gittleson and her husband, William, of Blackstone; two grandchildren, Katherine Masso and her husband, Nicholas, and Michael Sven Gittleson; and one great-grandson, Cole Johanson Masso. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 28, at 10 a.m., at the Chapel at Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Blvd., Providence, R.I. Interment will follow. Betties family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Thirwood Place in South Yarmouth. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the charity of ones choice.
