Elizabeth Lane (Betty) Johnson - SAVANNAH - Elizabeth Lane (Betty) Johnson 87 of Savannah, Ga ascended into Heaven peacefully in her sleep at Buckingham South in Savannah Thursday March 20, 2014...after a long illness.....Born September 20, 1927 in Lakeland, Ga Growing up in Lakeland Ga.. she married the love of her life Julius William (Buddy) Johnson on November 11, 1945 and had four children Gail, Baine, Joey & Barry.... She attended early school years in Lakeland Ga...until moving to Savannah where she attended Commercial High School (later renamed Savannah High School) in which all of her children graduated.. She lost her husband Julius William (Buddy) Johnson while he was in the Air Force in the Phillipines in 1966..he was 40... she was 39...After her husbands death...she worked endlessly to care for her children...managing the Tom's Drive-In on Skidaway Rd which later became Tom's restaurant (now Larry's)... She also worked as a secretary at Ear, Nose & Throat Associates...and also worked for Dr. Joseph Pacifici in Savannah...while finding the time for 3 meals a day for four hungry kids and anyone else who happened by...and there were many....her home became the Thanksgiving Day meeting place for many many friends thru the years... She lived in Lakeland Ga, Sacremento California, Valdosta Ga before moving to Savannah where she stayed until her death.... She was an active member of Aldersgate Methodist Church from 1963 until her illness made it impossible for her to attend...she always missed the people from her Church....she spent much of her later years giving personal care to the ones she held a special flame for.. (Joe Braddy), (JB Lowdnes)... She is survived by her sons Julius William (Joey) Johnson, and George Barry Johnson and her sister Mary (Aunt Pud) Smith, her granddaughters Lanie Johnson Smith (Jarrod), Heather Johnson, Ashley Johnson Ezell (Terry), grandson William (Billy) Jenkins, Sons In Law Paul Weber and Bobby (Hollywood) Woods along with many nieces and nephews...and her beloved dog Baby... She was preceded in death by her (Parents) George and Ressie Tomlinson, (Husband) Julius William Johnson USAF, (Sisters) Vida Pearl Sheffield, Alice Strong, (Brother) John Harris (Sonny) Tomlinson, (Daughters) Linda Gail Johnson Woods, Elizabeth Lynn (Baine) Johnson Weber. A Mermorial Service celebrating her incredible life will be held Wednesday 11am March 26, 2014 at Aldersgate Methodist Church 2020 Tennessee Ave Savannah Ga 31404 officiated by Chuck Courtenay Jr....then at a later date...her ashes will be taken home to Lakeland Ga where they will be spread alongside her loving husband Air Force Tech Sgt Julius W Johnson in the family's Fender cemetary.... Flowers may be sent to Aldersgate Methodist Church. Or due to her undying love of all animals...a donation could be made in her name Elizabeth L Johnson to the Humane Society in Savannah Ga.... Special thanks go out to St Josephs Hospital, Dr Robert Grant , Dr Andrew Sheils, Heritage Park (physical therapy) & Buckingham South (assisted living)...
