Washington - Mrs. Elizabeth Garrard Hall, 91, of Garrard Rd., died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at Wills Memorial Hospital.She was born in Wilkes County on March 17, 1913, the oldest child of the late Henry Gilbert and Ruth Booker Garrard. She attended public school in Washington, GA, where she was the Salutatorian of her class. A graduate of Young Harris College and the University of Georgia in Latin, she taught her first high school class in Fayetteville, GA, where one of her students would become the well-known author, Dr. Ferrol Sams.Married to the late Cheston Hall, she maintained homes in both Washington and Stone Mountain, GA, where she worked for the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, was an active member of the Methodist Women's Group, and enjoyed calling Bingo for the Regency, an assisted living center. Residing in her parents' homeplace in Washington, she was a lifelong member and active supporter of Smyrna United Methodist Church. A benefactress of Young Harris College, she also contributed to the Wesley Woods Foundation, a number of other Methodist charities, and Global Health Action. Mrs. Hall had a strong conviction for the importance of education as evidenced in her generous support of Young Harris College and the University of Georgia.Funeral services will be Saturday, May 22, at 11:00 am at the Smyrna United Methodist Church in Washington, GA, with Rev. Kathy Lamon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.Pallbearers will be David Garrard, William Garrard, Dr. Henry Garrard IV, Charles Andrew Garrard, Patrick Hammond Garrard, Raymond Charles Tobias, Emory Strother, and Marshall Garrett.She is survived by her dear friend and cousin, Mary Ann Garrard; two sisters, Ruth Garrard Tutt and Lois Ann Garrard Norman, both of Washington; four nieces, and two nephews. She was predeceased by her three brothers, Henry, Booker, and Bitsy Garrard.Visitation will be Friday, May 21, from 5:00-7:00 at Hopkins Funeral Home, in Washington, GA.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Smyrna United Methodist Church, 113 W.
