Elizabeth Eugenia "Betty" Teague Davis, wife of J. William Davis, died on 6th June, 2009, at her home in Greenville, S.C.Born in Augusta, Ga., she was the daughter of Charles Eugene and Ethlene Melinda Priester Teague. She attended Tubman High School for Girls and graduated from Columbia High and the University of South Carolina. She was a teacher in the public schools of old Ellenton, Loris and Greenville, S.C., and Nyack, N.Y. During World War II, after training at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Md., she was assistant state supervisor of VD records and reports for the S.C. Health Dept. and the U.S. Public Health Service. She was a Cub Scout den mother, a Pink Lady and a camp counselor. Her hobbies included needlework, bridge, tennis, growing flowers, ceramics, reading and genealogical research. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, AAUW, Greenville Woman's Club, Augusta Road Community Club, Colonial Dames of XVIIth Century and the Society of First Families of South Carolina 1670-1700. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, her daughter, Melinda D. LaFoy and son-in-law James L. LaFoy, Jr.; her son, Dr. James W. Davis, Jr. and daughter-in-law Dr. Susan S. Davis; five grandchildren; and a stepgrandson. She is also survived by a sister, Margaret Teague Shealy; a brother, N. Eugene Teague and his wife Peggy; and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Long Teague and Margaret Fowler Teague. She was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Sarah Teague; and four brothers: Jack Wilson, Charles E. Jr., Edward Francis and William Robert Teague. Following a family memorial service at the columbarium of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Greenville, on June 10, 2009, at 2 p.m., the family will welcome friends in the sanctuary atrium from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2310 Augusta Road, Greenville, SC 29605, or to the Carolina Fund, University of South Carolina, 1600 Hampton Street, Suite 736, Columbia, SC 29208.The family would like to thank all the kind caregivers from Guardian Home Care, who contributed so much to help Betty enjoy her last years, months and days in her home.
