CLAY Elizabeth "Peggy," 72 of Middletown, DE passed away on May 13, 2009 at Christiana Hospital with family at her side. Peggy was born in Englewood, NJ. She served 30 years working for the township of Teaneck, NJ where she retired as the Township Clerk. She was very active serving in the community. She served as past presidents of both the Urban League Guild and the Teaneck Municipal Employee Union.Peggy and her husband of 54 years, Caesar, traveled extensively and visited all but a few states in this country. Their travels took them on vacations in many countries where they spent quality time together. She provided her children and grandchildren with a positive role model to aspire to emulate. Peggy showed them what it was to overcome adversity through her strength. She enjoyed preparing food and lived in her kitchen, preparing food and entertaining family and friends. She enjoyed dancing with Caesar and made sure all her grandchildren knew how to do the "Ball and the Jack."Peggy is survived by her mother, Dorothy Pegeese, her loving husband Caesar, her four children: Woody and Carol Clay of Dover, Cynthia and Jerome Davis of Powder Springs, GA, Candace and Baldwin Outerbridge of Matthews, NC and Christopher and Trudie Clay of Dover, sixteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two stepsisters and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Peggy will have a home cooked meal ready for us all the next time we see her.Viewing will be from 5-7pm Sunday May 17, 2009 at Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Dover. Services will be 12noon Monday May 18, 2009 at Bennie Smith Funeral Home where friends may view two hours prior. Burial will be in Sharon Hill Cemetery, Dover.In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be sent to the MLK Jr. Senior Citizen Center, 120 Atlantic St, Hackensack, NJ.Condolences may be sent to benniesmithfuneralhome.com
