Obituary of Elizabeth Bishop


BANGOR - Elizabeth Hagerman Bishop, 92, died Dec. 11, 2008, at a local health care facility after a brief illness. She was born Aug. 7, 1916, in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of James Leigh Hagerman and Ruth (Crommett) Hagerman. Elizabeth graduated from Fort Fairfield High School and Houlton Business School. She worked for Fraser Paper Co., Madawaska and then for Archie Bishop & Sons, Presque Isle. There she met and married Harvey Bishop, June 25, 1947. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Presque Isle. Elizabeth enjoyed cooking, sewing, ceramics, crocheting, hunting, fishing and golfing. She is survived by daughters, Ruth Rooney and husband, Marim, of Hermon and Mary Whitehead and husband, Bob, of Amarillo, Texas; three granddaughters, Anne Violette of Delray Beach, Fla., Lisa Rooney of Belmont, Calif., and Angela Bytheway of Kamiah, Idaho; a grandson, Aaron Whitehead of Lexington, Ky.; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Harvey, May 13, 2005; her parents, Leigh and Ruth Hagerman; and a brother, Hollis Hagerman. A committal service at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor, will be announced in the spring. Gifts in her memory may be sent to Bangor Humane Society, 693B Mount Hope Ave., Bangor, ME 04401.
