HARRINGTON - Elizabeth A. Davis, 55, died Nov. 17, 2009, at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, New York City. She was born Dec. 15, 1953, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Maj. Ivan W. Fickett and Marion E. Fickett, RN. Elizabeth grew up in Farmingdale, Long Island, N.Y., where she developed many lifelong friends who supported her throughout her life and during her battle with liver disease. After graduating from Farmingdale High School in 1972, she moved to Maine where she raised her three sons who survive her, James P. Fletcher, Frederick E. Greenhalgh and Alex G. Greenhalgh. Elizabeth, known to her friends as "Betsy," loved to help things grow, whether it was the plants in her garden or the students in her classroom. In education, she achieved a master's degree in special education from the University of Maine in 1998, and Certificate of Advanced Studies from the University of Maine in 2003. In her career as a human services worker and schoolteacher, she worked with children and adults with special needs and disabilities, most recently at DW Merritt School, Jonesport Elementary School, Sumner High School and Children's Services, Ellsworth. She possessed a tireless dedication to the needs of others both as a mother and social worker, and is remembered by the many people whose lives she touched. In addition to her sons, she is survived by her mother, Marion E. Fickett; and grandchildren, Johnny Kish and Evelyn Domsalla and companion, Bill Lipton. Friends and family may call 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, 220 Court St., Machias, where a funeral service will begin 3 p.m. with Pastor John Cutler officiating.
