Frederick, Eleanor GLOVERSVILLE, N.Y. Mrs. Eleanor Machlin Frederick, born January 23, 1906, died peaceably at Nathan Littauer Hospital on October 18, 2007. Mrs. Frederick was a resident at the Getman Home in Gloversville. Prior to moving to Gloversville, Mrs. Frederick was a longtime resident of the Albany area. Mrs. Frederick was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Robert W. Frederick; brother, Jerry Machlin (Trudy); son, Jack Frederick of Johnstown (Phyllis); and grandson, Jeffrey Frederick. Mrs. Frederick is survived by her two sons, Dr. Robert W. Frederick Jr. (Doris) of Watkins Glen, N.Y. and Dr. Peter J. Frederick of Voorheesville; sister, Lucille Backer of Hartford, Conn.; eight adoring grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Denison University (1926), she will be remembered by both family and friends as a Life Master bridge player, extensive world traveler and consummate hostess. Known fondly by many as "Granny," she will also be remembered for her exquisitely knitted sweaters and Christmas stockings, love of baking, interest in the latest political news and sports, and her gift of story telling. A service planned by her grandchildren is scheduled for Saturday, November 10, 2007 at the Johnstown Senior Center on East Main Street. People are invited to gather at 2 p.m. with a memorial service to be held at 3 p.m. Her family requests that those wishing to offer gifts in her memory please do so to the charity of their choice.
