Born July 18, 1926 to Richard and Hazel Brown, she grew up in Wilmington, Vermont. She graduated in 1947 with a bachelor's degree in home economics from Florida State University, where she met the love of her life. Eleanor married Ezekiel Carter on December 22, 1950. After travelling the world, they settled in Melbourne. They adopted two children, Cynthia and Richard.Eleanor was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, and was well known for her cooking and quilting. An avid community volunteer, Eleanor helped with Easter Seals, school nurse, many church circle activities with the First United Methodist Church, and helping with wounded Viet Nam veterans who were hospitalized at Tachikawa AFB, Japan.They continued their travels together throughout their 64 years of marriage. After Zeke retired in 1974, they opened The Silver Thimble fabric store in Melbourne, and Eleanor's Casuals in Cashiers, North Carolina. For the next 40 years they spent the winters in Florida and the summers in North Carolina.She is survived by her husband Zeke, daughter Cindy Stokes (Larry), son Rick (Terri), grandchildren and great grandchildren Ariel (Travis, Gage and Braxton), Dani (Jason, Spencer and Alora), David (Desiree), Steven (Shauna and Thane).A memorial service will be held in Glenville, North Carolina this coming summer.
