OLD TOWN - Elaine B. (Gagnon) Carter, 61, beloved wife of the late Willis Carter, went to be with her Lord, Jesus, March 27, 2011, surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 18, 1949, in Caribou, daughter of Lawrence and the late Thelma (Gendreau) Gagnon. She graduated from Mattawamkeag High School in 1967 as valedictorian. Elaine enjoyed many activities in the Catholic church. She was a member of Daughters of Isabella and participated in prayer groups, including Life in the Spirit seminars. Elaine's first love after family was the ocean. Many happy memories were formed in Bar Harbor sitting on the rocks watching the waves. Elaine is survived by her loving father, Lawrence Gagnon of Mattawamkeag; sister, Linda Lare and her husband, Troy, of Hermon; brother, James Gagnon and his wife, Sharon, of East Millinocket; and sister, Carlene Deschenes and her husband, Romeo, of Brewer. She was the beloved godmother of Amy Miquelon, Renee Plodzik, Matthew Gagnon and Nicki McAvoy-Larabee. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She leaves many wonderful friends, especially Jim Simon. In addition to her husband and mother, she was predeceased by her sister, Mary Lorraine Gagnon. Special thanks goes to Dr. Robert Bach and the sixth floor nurses at Eastern Maine Medical Center. Friends are invited to visit with the family 7-9 p.m. Thursday, March 31, at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. A Catholic Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, April 1, at St Mary's Church, Lincoln, with the Rev. Myles Cyr officiating. Those who wish may sign an online register and leave written condolences at www.clayfuneralhome.com. "She suffered patiently and long. Her hope was bright; her faith was strong. The peace of Jesus filled her with love and now she rests with the Lord above."
