Edward R. Moriarty 1945 - 2006 SPRINGFIELD - Edward R. "Eddie Moe" Moriarty, 60, a lifelong resident of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, and longtime local businessman, died late Wednesday evening at Baystate Medical Center. He was born and educated in Springfield, the son of the late James R. and Katherine (Leary) Moriarty. Eddie Moe was the current co-owner and operator of the Celtic Pub located on Cottage St., in Springfield. He also was the former co-owner and operator of several local pubs in the Greater Springfield area for many years. Eddie Moe will forever be remembered as "Santa" to many local children in the Greater Springfield area. One of his greatest accomplishments was the joy he brought to the many children at the Shriner's Children Hospital as well as several other charitable organizations during the Christmas season. Eddie Moe was a friend to all and will always be remembered for his big heart and kind ways. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church, and a member of several clubs including the American Legion Post 420, Tiger Athletic Club and the Eagle Club both of Chicopee. He leaves his three children, Christine Moriarty of Springfield, James M. "Mickey" Moriarty and his wife, Kathleen of Wilbraham, and Patrick J. Moriarty and his wife, Michelle of Springfield, four grandchildren, Nicole Bertera, Michael C. Moriarty, Morgan M. and Conor P. Moriarty, his longtime companion and her son, Linda LaBranche of Springfield, and Philip LaBranche of Russell, MA; his former wife, Patricia E. (Tabb) Moriarty of Springfield as well as many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Mickey Moriarty. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday morning in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, at 10:00 a.m. followed by Rites of Committal in St. Michael's Cemetery both in Springfield. Calling hours will be held Sunday afternoon from 2-5 p.m. at Sampson's Liberty Street Funeral Home, 710 Liberty Street, Springfield. Contributions in his memory may be directed to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA, 01104.
