Edna Williams (nee McAulay) Edna passed away peacefully on Friday, November 16, 2007 at the age of 85 years. The Service of Remembrance will be held at the chapel of the Saskatoon Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. Edna is survived by one daughter, Debra (Richard) Elliott, Saskatoon, SK; two sisters, Madeline (Harvey) Just and Anne (Robert) Hearn; one sister-in-law, Darline McAulay and their families; one grandchild, Lawrence Elliott. Edna was predeceased by her husband, Granville L. Williams (2001); her daughter, Melodie Anne; her son, Lee Raymond; her brother, Wilfred McAulay; her sister, Jackie Miller; her parents, Katherine and Donald McAulay. Edna was born at the family farm at Forgan, SK. (1922). After completing her schooling Edna went to work for the Government of Canada in Ottawa during World War II. Edna married Granville Lawrence Williams at the Forgan United Church in 1945 where they lived at Eston, SK until they moved to Saskatoon in 1955. Edna became very active with the Saskatchewan Association for the Mentally Retarded, working together with Dr. John Dolan and others in developing programs for handicapped children and adults. Edna served as President of the SAMR from 1968-1971 and was on the Board of Directors of the Association and Cosmopolitan Industries for many years later. Edna was also instrumental in the development of the Saskatchewan Institute on the Prevention of Handicaps with the Alvin Buckwold Centre & Dept. of Pediatrics. Edna loved her years living at the acreage at Grasswood and spending her summers at the family cabin at Christopher Lake. The family expresses a special thank you to the caregivers at St. Ann's Nursing Home and to Dr. Nora McKee and staff of the Department of Family Medicine at RUH for their concern and kindness. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Saskatchewan Association for Community Living or the Saskatchewan Institute for the Prevention of Handicaps.
