-->Edna Ruth Hudson Johnson CLINTON, SC-- Edna Ruth "Peggy" Hudson Johnson, 80, of the Presbyterian Home of SC in Clinton, formerly of Spartanburg, died Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at Laurens County Hospital. Born March 22, 1928 in Clinton, SC, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Welborn and Gertrude Isabel Smith Hudson. A 1948 graduate of Mary Black Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, she was a retired Registered Nurse, having worked at Mary Black Memorial Hospital, Spartanburg General Hospital, and for many years was a nurse at Wofford College. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg, a life member of the SC Garden Club, and member of the Hillbrook Merry Tillers, a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the See Saw Squares, and the SC Square Dancing Hall of Fame. In 1967 she was the first woman in SC to serve as a juror on a death penalty case. Survivors include her husband, Dr. Robert Duren Johnson Sr. of Clinton whom she married on October 15, 1948; two sons, Dr. Robert Duren Johnson Jr. and his wife Deborah C. Johnson of Lancaster, and Dr. William Samuel Johnson and his wife Suzanne P. Johnson of Winnsboro, and their daughters, Shannon M. Johnson, and Stacy L. Johnson; a brother, Fred Hudson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 2:00-2:45 PM Thursday, November 6, 2008 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum. Cryptside services will follow at 3:00 PM at the Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 393 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302, or to the Presbyterian Home of SC, 801 Musgrove Street, Clinton, SC 29325.
