TUSCALOOSA Edna Ruth Carpenter, age 95, of Tuscaloosa, died Sunday, May 13, 2007, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 2 p.m. today at Big Sandy Baptist Church with Rev. Brent Roe officiating and Joe Chandler giving the eulogy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.Her parents, George Weldon and Ludie Phares Hinton; sisters and brothers, Phares Hinton, Sudie Carroll, Lois Walker, Robert Hinton and Hazel Hinton, preceded her in death.Survivors include her sisters, Betty H. Geddie; special nieces and nephews, Hazel Boteler, Peggy Camp, Rita Spiller, Jerry Prewitt, Gordon Walker, George Hinton, John R. Hinton, Jack Hinton, Jackie Carroll, Virginia Ozment and Archie Calhoun; two special great-nieces, Meredith and Michelle Boteler, who gave many tireless hours of personal care to Mrs. Carpenter; 20 great nieces, 14 great nephews, 23 great-great nieces, 18 great-great nephews and one great-great-great nephew.She was a long time resident of Big Sandy Community and the oldest living member of Big Sandy Baptist Church, where she served as a clerk and secretary for more than 25 years. Mrs. Carpenter worked for many years at Avery's Super Market and the Stork Shoppe. She enjoyed cooking and visiting with friends and family. She was close friends with the Lydia Sunday School Class at Big Sandy Baptist Church.Pallbearers will be Wayne Boteler, Scott Walker, W.F. Camp, Len Spiller, David Mills, Alan Hinton, Harold Prewitt, Larry Jones, J.B. Davis and E.C. Clayton.Honorary pallbearers are Lydia Sunday School Class, members of the Big Sandy Baptist Church, Women of Big Sandy Methodist Church, staff and employees of Glenn Haven Nursing Home, Dr. Brian White, Rella Savage and Hospice of West Alabama.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama or Big Sandy Cemetery Fund.
