Obituary of Edna-Mae White


COHOES Edna Mae White, 92, of Cohoes, died on Sunday, October 15, 2006 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, with members of her family at her side. She was the daughter of the late Rosario and Rose Morris and was a lifelong resident of Cohoes. She was married for 51 years to Francis E. White who died in 1988. Edna devoted her life to her family, and especially enjoyed the time she spent with her five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. For many years, she was a resident of the Cayuga Plaza Apartments in Cohoes and enjoyed many activities with her fellow Seniors, including singing with the Silver Tops. She was the mother of the late Edward P. White. Edna is survived by her loving son, John L. White Sr. and his wife Diane (Brennan) of Cohoes; a daughter-in-law of Karen (Toma) White of Latham; five grandchildren, Nancy Allen and her husband Bryan, John White Jr. and his wife Amy, Colleen Blizinski and her husband David, all of Cohoes, Edward White and his wife Janet of Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. and Kara Matthews and her husband Philip of Waterford. Also by eight great-grandchildren, Gage, Samantha Mae, Liam, Ciara, Ethan, Brody, Philip and Declan. Edna is also survived by her sole remaining sibling, Mildred Fredette, with whom she shared a room for the last year at the Albany County Nursing Home. She was predeceased by four brothers and three sisters. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Edna's family would like to offer a special thanks to the staff of the Albany County Nursing Home for the warm and loving care they provided for the last year, and also to the people at the emergency department of St. Peter's Hospital for making her last moments more comfortable. Funeral services Wednesday, October 18 at 8:30 a.m. from Marra's Funeral Home in Cohoes and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. at St. Bernard's Church, Cohoes. Calling hours will be Tuesday, October 17 at the funeral home from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Peter's Hospital in Albany.
