Obituary of Edna-Dillon Bailey

Edna Dillon Bailey Whitesboro Mrs. Edna M. (Dillon) Bailey, 84, of Whitesboro, died unexpectedly at home on February 27, 2010. Edna was born in Utica on March 25, 1925, the daughter of Reginald and Clara (Bailey) Dillon. She was a graduate of Whitesboro High School class of 1943. Following graduation, she attended St. Elizabeth School of Nursing, graduating in 1946. Upon that graduation, she was employed at St. Lukes Hospital as a dedicated nurse and supervisor. She traveled many a wintery night to tend to the sick and needy. After retirement, she relinquished her free time by volunteering for St. Lukes Day Care Service. Edna was a devout Catholic and became a Eucharistic minister, administering communion to shut-ins, the sickly and elderly. Edna married Arthur Bailey on August 9, 1947. They enjoyed over 50 years of marriage and Art was her one and only. Art passed away on December 10, 2000, despite Ednas supportive, loving and expert care. Edna is survived by a brother, George Dillon, of Whitesboro; and four children and eight grandchildren: son, James Bailey, of Hawaii, and his two daughters, Michele and her husband, Jim DiMartino and their son, Luca, of Kensington, MD, and Vanessa, of Casa Mesa, CA; son, Bill Bailey and his wife, Judy, and their children, Rachel and Gavin and Rachels daughter, Melody, all of Remsen; daughter, Karen and her husband, Bob Sloma, of Chadwicks, and their children and grandchildren, Suzanne Bartholomew, of Remsen, Amy Bartholomew and her partner, Jason Reader, of Waterville, and their daughters, Theresa and Leah, and Carla Bartholomew and her partner, Justin, and her daughter, Ariyah, of Remsen; son, Donald Bailey and his wife, Felicia, and their son, Taylor, of Memphis, NY. She is also survived by many special friends, Bev Lombard, The St. Lukes Dinner Ladies, and many special nieces and nephews. Edna loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren unconditionally. She especially enjoyed her church days and dining after with Bill and Rachel. A special time for her was Uticas St. Patricks Parade with Art, Suzanne and family. Mrs. Baileys funeral will be held on Friday, March 5, 2010, at 9:00 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica, and 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart and St. Marys in New York Mills. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Whitesboro. Calling hours for family and friends are Thursday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Church of the Sacred Heart and St. Marys or The Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Ednas memory. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the Buck Apartment Group for their support and the Whitesboro Rescue Squad.
