Edith Johnson Smith, 94, Sarasota, died Jan. 18, 2004. She was born May 14, 1909, in Middlefield, Ohio, and came to Sarasota from Pawling, N.Y. She had been secretary of the board of directors of Pawling Corp., where her late husband, Howard W., had been president and chairman. She graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1933 and was a member of Longboat Key Club, Longboat Key Chapel, Quaker Hill Country Club and Christ Church of Quaker Hill, both in Pawling. Survivors include a daughter, Valerie Busby of Pawling; sons Roger of Pawling and Stephen of Sea Bright, N.J.; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Jan. 28 at Plymouth Harbor Chapel. Another memorial service will be Feb. 3 in Pawling. Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Sarasota, and Horn and Thomes Inc., Funeral Home in Pawling are in charge.
