Earl Ray Johnson, 59, of North Vernon, died at 3:40 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at his residence.Born Nov. 11, 1954, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Ray and Muriel Clark Johnson. He married Linda VanCleve on Oct. 6, 1973, in Seymour. She preceded him in death in October of 2011.Earl was a tradesman, doing drywall and general construction. He served in the U.S. Army from 1974 to 1980. He was a member of Hayden Baptist Church, the American Legion Post in North Vernon and Eagles Lodge of Seymour. He enjoyed fishing, building things with wood, gardening, being a mechanic doing body work and painting cars. He was an artist who loved to sing and dance.Survivors include one son, Donald Johnson of North Vernon; one daughter, Jacqueline Miller of North Vernon; three brothers, Victor Welch and Douglas Johnson, both of Indianapolis, and Steve Welch of Bargersville; six sisters, Judy Shaw and Rachel Faucett, both of Indianapolis, Jeri Coonfield of Southport, Mary Wagner of Fishers, Alice Wallen of North Vernon, and Wilma Richardson of Lee, Illinois; and three grandchildren, Jacob Miller, Monica Miller and Nickolas Johnson, all of North Vernon.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother, Kenneth Johnson; and sisters, Marie Sanders, Beverly Peacock, Sylvia Terry, Patricia Smith and Shirley Rusomaroff.A funeral service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. today at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon with the Rev. Steve Welch officiating.
