Evelyn Davis passed away peacefully on September 17th, 2009. Born in Rhinelander, Wisconsin in 1918, she was preceded in her final journey by her parents, John and Pearl, her sister, Esther, her daughter, Karen, and her grandson, Gregory. She graduated from Cumberland Hospital Nursing School in New York and went on to work as a psychiatric nurse at Creedmoor State Hospital and school nurse in Queens, New York. She is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years, Sam, her son, Philip Davis of Walpole, NH, and her daughter, Nancy Geister, of New City, NY. She also leaves behind four granddaughters, Amy, Jessica, Gabrielle and Alexandra, and two great grandchildren, Grace and Kyle. She and Sam had a storybook marriage that began with a blind date to play tennis while she was a young nursing student in New York City. They were wed on Valentines Day, February 14, 1940 following a huge snowstorm in Brooklyn. In their retirement, she and Sam traveled between residences in Queens Village, NY and Orlando, FL, spending time with friends and family .Evelyn and Sam very much enjoyed their last three years together at the Esplanade Assisted Living residence in Palisades , New York. where they were active participants on in all of their daily activities . Evelyn was an avid bridge player who also loved to read. She was a wonderful cook, and loved hosting holiday celebrations and family gatherings. A warm and nurturing lady, Evelyn was a calming influence over the entire family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. A celebration of life in Evelyn's honor will be held at Higgins Funeral Home, 321 South Main Street, New City, New York . on Tuesday, September 22nd at 1 pm.
