JOHNSON, Evelyn Beckham, 83, of 300 Redwood Ave., Dothan, AL., died on Sunday, November 25, 2001, at Flowers Hospital after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2001, at First United Methodist Church of Dothan with Dr. Lawson Bryan, Reverend Allie Freeman, and Reverend Freddie McCain officiating. Burial will follow in the Pinckard Memorial Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 1380 West Main Street, Dothan, Alabama, 36303. Mrs. Johnson was born September 21, 1918, in Newton, Alabama, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Peyton Beckham. She spent her early life in Newton and for several years lived in Hot Springs, Arkansas, where she gradueated from high school. After her marriage to Lawson Johnson in 1941, she lived the rest of her life in Dothan. She was a homemaker and was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church where she served in the Preschool Sunday School Department for thirty years. Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband, Lawson W. Johnson, Dothan; her son, John Lawson Johnson of Montgomery; her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Palmer Penny of Enterprise; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Penny of Auburn; a grandson, John Andrew Penny of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; a sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Milton Adams of Dothan; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Willingham of Atlanta, Georgia; several cousins and several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Ralph Snell, and a brother, Preston Bechham.
