MARTINEZ, Ga. - Mrs. Ethel M. Williams entered into rest Monday, February 8, 2010 at her home on Pleasant Home Road. Funeral services will be conducted (today) Saturday, February 13, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. from Tabernacle Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Charles E. Goodman, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olive Memorial Gardens, 3666 Deans Bridge Road, Augusta, GA. The remains will lie in state at the church from 12:00 noon until the hour of service. The funeral procession will leave from the residence of her daughter, Joyce Dejoie of Pleasant Home Road at 12 o'clock, Noon. If so desired, in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Jud C. Hickey Center for Alzheimers Care, 1901 Central Avenue, Augusta, GA 30904. Ethel was born in Aiken County, South Carolina on August 7, 1923. She was the third of of six children born to the late Stuart Walker and the late Annie Lou Walker Willis. Ethel was educated in Richmond County and was a graduate of Haines Normal Institute. She was a military wife who travelled the globe with her husband of forty-eight years, Edward "Dick" Williams, who preceded her in death. Ethel returned to make her home in Georgia upon her husband's retirement from the military. She worked for ten years in the Columbia County school system. Ethel loved to entertain and was well known for her culinary ability, her themed parties and her lavish holiday decorations. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where she faithfully served as a member of the usher board until her health failed. She is survived by a son, Richard (Patty) Williams, San Diego, CA; two daughters, Joyce (Gabriel) Dejoie, Martinez, GA and Deborah Bennett, Augusta, GA; five grandchildren, Zuri Williams, Michael Dejoie, Anthony (Tony) Dejoie who cherished and cared for her until the end, Racy Bennett, and Brittany Bennett; one sister, Rosa B. Williams; two brothers, John Walker and Charles (Lois) Walker; four great grandchildren; a very special friend, Lena Thomas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. W. H.
