ELLEN M. FLANAGAN - BURLINGTON - Ellen M. Flanagan, 57, of Burlington, passed away with her good friend, Sherry, by her side on June 19, 2012, after a short illness. She was born June 21, 1954, in Salem, Mass., the daughter of Arthur and Rita (Kingsley) Flanagan. Ellen graduated from Vergennes Union High School and then the University of Vermont with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She worked at Fletcher Allen Health Care for many years, was Director of Nursing at Porter Hospital and at Green Mountain Health Care, and most recently for VNA. As you can imagine, she was a very caring and giving person, who will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband, David Ashworth and his daughters; stepmother, June Flanagan; brother, Arthur; sisters, Kathy and Sharon; special niece, Lori; nephew, Richie; nieces, Stacey, Jamie, Lacy, and Hanah; and several great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother and father. She also leaves behind many close friends who helped make her the special person she was. There will be a Catholic Mass at St. Peter's Church in Vergennes on Monday, June 25, 2012, at 11:30 a.m. Following the Mass, there will be a gathering for family and friends at Vergennes Congregational Church on Water Street in Vergennes. There will be an additional celebration of Ellen's life at a later date, to be determined at the discretion of the family.
