DURHAM — Elizabeth B. Williams, 83, passed away February 15, 2012, at her home in Durham, N.H, after a seven-month battle with cancer. She was born Elizabeth Mae Blood to Clement and Edna Blood of East Ryegate, Vermont on October 24, 1928. She graduated from Woodsville (N.H.) High School and then from Mary Hitchcock School of Nursing, where she continued working as a RN before doing postgraduate work in OR technique at the University of Philadelphia. She later worked in the surgical department at Presbyterian Hospital in New York City.Liz married Thomas Williams on May 26, 1951, and the two settled in Durham, where they raised their two children. She received a BA in History from the University of New Hampshire in 1955. Liz and Tom also purchased land in Alexandria, N.H., where in 1954 they built the stone-and-log cabin that became their beloved summer home for the rest of their lives. Liz Williams is survived by her daughter Ann Williams of Lee, N.H.; her son and daughter-in-law Peter Williams and Tamara Naumann, of Dinosaur, Colorado; and her sister and brother-in law, Janice and Pierre Guillemette of Woodsville, N.H. and Thonotosassa, Florida. She was predeceased by her husband Thomas Williams, professor at UNH and award-winning author.A private gathering of close friends and relatives will be arranged soon.
