ELIZABETH M. CLARK ESSEX - Elizabeth "Betty" Marie Clark, 94, passed away on Apr. 1, 2010 after a long and spirited life. She was born in Worcester, Mass., June 27, 1915 to the late Ethel (Taylor) and William Coombs. Elizabeth graduated from Commerce High School and David Hazel Fanning Girls Trade School in 1937 where she was the vice president of her class. She married John Clark in October 1941 while they both worked for the Howard Johnson restaurant chain in Massachusetts and New Jersey. In 1950, they opened up Clark's Restaurant in Northborough, Mass. The restaurant expanded from a pastry & luncheon shop to a full service family restaurant with entertainment. After they sold the restaurant in 1972, Elizabeth served as a hostess in area restaurants and was an active volunteer at the Fallon Clinic and UMASS Medical Center. In 1998, Elizabeth moved to Essex Junction, Vt. to be near family. She was predeceased by her husband John in 1975 and her four brothers Irving, George, Robert and William. Elizabeth is survived by her son Tobey Clark and his wife Laurie of Essex, grandchildren Travis and his fiance Jessica Lower of Enosburg Falls, Kyle and his wife Katie of Underhill Center and their children Willa, Harry and Charlotte Elizabeth, Casey and her husband Michel Santos of Burlington, and eight nieces and nephews. Elizabeth's traits included a dedicated work ethic, a loving personality and devotion to those around her, a strong presence, and quick witted humor which was always followed by a laugh. She adored her grandchildren. The Clark family would like to thank the staff of Burlington Health & Rehabilitation, 5th floor, for their loving care of Elizabeth in her last years of life. A celebration of Elizabeth's life will be held at the Clark residence, 119 Browns River Road in Essex on April 11, 2010 from 1 to 4 p.m. with a eulogy at 2 p.m. On April 17 at 11 a.m., a graveside memorial service will be held at Northborough Cemetery.
