COX, MRS. ELIZABETH BROOKS 1917-2011 At age 93, Mrs. Elizabeth Brooks Cox passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2011. She was born in Tuscaloosa, AL on September 13, 1917 to Clara Beeland and Leon Gilmore Brooks. She graduated from the University of Alabama where she was a member of Mortar Board, Pan-Hellenic Council, Omega, Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, and was a Corolla favorite. She received a master's degree in social work at Sophie Newcomb College. On March 7, 1941 she married William Cary Cox, who preceded her in death. On March 7, 1991, they celebrated 50 years of marriage. "Miss Libba" was an active member of First United Methodist Church, the RMC Breast Cancer Support Group, a past member of the Tuesday Study Club, the bridge club, and at the age of 85 continued delivering Meals on Wheels. She is survived by her two children, Elizabeth "Buffie" Cox Marks (Randy) and William Cary Cox, Jr.; grandchildren, Randolph Caldwell Marks (Cathy), Jr., William Brooks Marks, Cary Bolling Pollard Marks, and William Cary Cox, III; 5 Great-Grandchildren. Graveside service for Mrs. Elizabeth Brooks Cox, 93, of Alexander City, will be Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Hillview Memorial Park, 1926 Hillabee Street, Alexander City, AL 35010. Dr. Bill Etheridge will officiate. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 2, 2011 from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm at First United Methodist Church.
