Born in Newberry RFD, Florida, on February 6, 1929, Effie Mae came here as a child from Alachua County. She was a seamstress and attended Fellowship Church on Galloway Road. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband Carl H. Smith. She is survived by her son Joel Lee Smith, Sr., Lakeland, daughters Lula Mae Spivey, Lakeland, Peggy Carletta Hayes, Anna Maria, FL, sons Michael Shane Smith, Dana Andrea Smith, Joel Lee Smith, Jr., Rodney Allen Smith, all of Lakeland; 10 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2014, at Florida National Cemetery. Lanier Funeral Home.
