SMITH Dwight R. Smith, Sr. 83, died July 19, 2005. Mr. Smith was born in Somerville, Alabama on February 18, 1922. He was a retired Navy Chief, having served during WWII and Korea. Mr. Smith was a founding member of the Church of the Epiphany, Jacksonville and a long-time congregant of Christ Church, Ponte Vedra. Mr. Smith was an avid boater and sailor, having worked in that industry as boat captain, resort manager and marina manager in both Florida and the Bahamas. Mr. Smith is survived by his loving and devoted wife of sixty years, Stephanie, his two sons, Dennis A. Smith and wife Bettye of St. Augustine, and Dwight R. Smith, Jr. and wife Linda of Clearwater. He is also survived by two grandsons and their wives, Eiren K. Smith and Auri, of Palm Harbor and Cpl. Dennis R. Smith, USMC, and Malia of Beaufort, SC, and many other loving family members and friends. The family will receive relatives and friends at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home at Chapel Hills on Saturday, July 23 beginningat 1 PM. The funeral service will follow in the chapel starting at 2 PM with The Rev. Laurence K. Wells, Rector of St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church officiating. Interment will follow the service. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, NMCRS Naval Air Station, Box 48, Bldg. 13, Jacksonville, FL 32212-0048.
