COTTONDALE Doyle Fred Johnson, age 78, of Cottondale, died Dec. 27, 2010, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Brian Miller and Rev. Lewis Bunn officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.Survivors include his wife, Mary Sue Vaughn Johnson; a son, Fred V. Johnson (Jeanette); two sisters, Ouita Livingston and Billie Gleisberg; and two grandchildren, Garrett and Betsy Johnson.Fred served in the Korean War and retired from the City of Tuscaloosa Fire Department with 37 years of service. His last position was Assistant Fire Chief. Fred was a member of Fairview Wesleyan Church. A gifted wood craftsman, the pieces he made and shared will be cherished forever. He was physically a huge man with a heart to match.
