DOUGLAS BYRON STUART Douglas Byron Stuart, 81, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances. Byron was born Aug. 29, 1927 in Emo, Ont. to the late Charles and Maude Stuart He spent 12 years in Dryden, Ont., but had lived most of his life in Rainy River District. He worked as a manager at Eatons for 39 years. Byron was a former member of the Fort Frances Curling Club, and was one of the founding members of the original curling club. He also was a member of Knox United Church, and a past member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Rotary and Kinsmen clubs. He loved spending time at the cabin on Rainy Lake, and he enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, and curling. Byron was united in marriage on July 6, 1955 to the former Shirley Lyons, who survives along with their three children, Karen (Richard) Rob of Fort Frances, Ont., Douglas (Debbie) of Dryden, Ont., and Robert (Cheryl) of Fort Frances, Ont. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Alyson Rob (Aaron Bisson), Travis Rob (Tracy Treflin), Jessie, Jenna, and Jailla Stuart, and Samantha and Matthew Stuart; two sisters-in-law, Marjorie Stuart of Fort Frances, Ont. and Teresa Stuart of Thunder Bay, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Maude; and four siblings, Margaret, Claude, Charles, and Ronald. A celebration of Byron’s life will be held Monday, Dec. 15, 2008 at 1 p.m. at Knox United Church in Fort Frances, with Rev. Barbara Miller officiating. A private family interment will take place in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances. The honourary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Alyson Rob, Travis Rob, Jessie Stuart, Jenna Stuart, Jailla Stuart, Samantha Stuart, and Matthew Stuart.
