Obituary of Douglas-S. Davis


DAVIS, Douglas S., 66, of Brandon, Fla., formerly of Centerburg, Ohio, passed away February 10, 2011. He was born July 2, 1944, in Elkton, Md. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William Arlin and Nancy Jane Davis; mother, Grace Reynolds Davis; father, Newton Davis; and stepmother, Ethel Davis; In-laws, Bob and Virgie Whited; brother-in-law, Darrell Thomas; niece, Shelley Whited; and nephew, Shawn Griffith. Doug graduated from Centerburg High School in 1962, and continued his education at the University of Kentucky. He was a member of the Wildcat football team from 1962-1966. Doug was chosen by the Wigman of America to be a National High School All American All Star player. Therefore, he earned the right to play in the All-Star game in Dallas, Texas. Drafted in the 5th round, first pick by the Minnesota Vikings, Doug played for a total of seven years in the NFL. He is a member of the Brandon Elks #2383, as well as an NFL Alumni. He was employed by Siemens Water Technologies for 25 years as a national sales director. He spent many years coaching football in youth sports with his son and grandson, as well as assisting with junior high school and varsity football. He is survived by wife, Roberta Davis; son, Brian (Jennifer) Davis of Lakeland, Fla.; grandson, Austin Davis of Lakeland, Fla.; sisters, Christine Thomas, Bertha (Lowell) Kennedy and Nancy (James) Griffith; brothers, Larry (Phyllis) Davis, Kenneth Davis and Earnest (Brenda) Davis; brother-in-law, Roy (Judy) Whited; nieces, Carey (Brett) Ballinger, Regina (Landon) Mealer and Bobby (Amanda) Kennedy; and eight great-nieces and nephews. Services and burial will take place in his hometown of Centerburg, Ohio.
